Shamekia Gordan

Shamekia is a passionate community advocate who was born and raised in Boston, MA. She has over 10 years of experience in the nonprofit sector in the areas of human services, community building, workforce development and youth development. She has excelled in a variety of executive and senior leadership roles as well as in program oversight and management roles in cities across the East coast.

One of her most memorable experiences was time she spent managing educational and leadership programs for at-risk youth ages 10-19. Shamekia provided youth with customized information, skill-building opportunities and the support necessary to develop and walk along their pathway to college. In five years, over 100 youth attended college under her guidance and leadership.

Shamekia is a relentless advocate for marginalized people. She has worked with families in several neighborhoods to build trust and active participation in local programs. She is known for always being willing to help and feels prideful about engaging communities in a way that has yielded significant results. Her honest and straight-forward approach has consistently been named as the reason why so many people from communities and the C-suite love working with her each day.

Shamekia graduated from Tuskegee University with a BA in Political Science. She then received a Masters of Science from Wheelock College in Organizational Leadership with a concentration in Nonprofit Management. On behalf of her graduate cohort, Shamekia took part in a social justice policy reform research team in Denmark, Sweden and Norway. She also completed a graduate certificate program, "Women in Politics & Public Policy" at UMass Boston.

In addition to the many years she has spent advocating for and assisting children, youth & families living in struggling communities, Shamekia has worked with organizational leaders to develop programs aimed at large-scale community change and designed strategies for improvement in organizational operations at large nonprofits. Demand for Shamekia’s expertise continues to grow.

Shamekia takes pride in being a military wife who has successfully managed several moves and deployments. She currently resides in Chesapeake, VA with her husband Hylton, son Hylton Jr and their dog Sandy. Shamekia can be reached at sgordon@bluecompassgroup.com.
